Join PREP in Celebrating National Recovery Month this September

Celebrate National Recovery Month with PREP in September as we honor the success of individuals who have reclaimed their lives through recovery. We champion the power of education in reducing stigma around substance use disorder (SUD) and promote peer-supported recovery in rural communities.

September is National Recovery Month, an annual observance established in 1989 by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This month-long celebration is dedicated to increasing awareness of mental health and SUD, championing the successes of individuals in recovery, and sharing knowledge of recovery support services.

During National Recovery Month, events are held nationwide to promote recovery from mental health disorders and SUD. These events include educational sessions to inform the public, community outreach to provide support, and celebrations to honor those in recovery.

Recovery Month has adopted the permanent theme, "Every Person. Every Family. Every Community.” This underscores that recovery support is for everyone and acknowledges the needs of those seeking help. This message resonates deeply with RHRC’s Peer Recovery Expansion Program (PREP) as we deliver peer-supported recovery services for rural communities. We place certified peer-recovery specialists in rural emergency rooms to provide care when patients need it most.

How Can You Participate in National Recovery Month?

  • Share: Post and share recovery stories on your social media channels and in person to inspire and encourage support.

  • Host or Attend Events: Engage your community through local events such as walks, runs, educational sessions, and recovery celebrations.

  • Educate and Learn: Spread educational resources across your community or workplace to boost understanding and support of recovery processes.

This National Recovery Month, let’s increase community support and education for individuals and families struggling with substance use and behavioral health disorders. Join PREP in our ongoing efforts to support recovery journeys in rural communities.
